We are a creative studio for experimental storytelling.

About

KS12 is a creative studio founded by communication designer Patrizia Kommerell and video artist Gabriel Shalom. We tell stories that blur the lines between documentary and fiction, artwork and essay. We engage with new forms and experimental processes, taking advantage of opportunities which are created by new technologies and anticipating the near future in our own fictions. Our transmedia approach often places video as the nucleus of a storytelling experience which extends outward into various social media formats. We often produce inside the framework of events, adding a performative dimension to our work.
Intuition, passion and humor are the foundations of our approach to conducting interviews. We value a conceptually rigorous approach to design and typography, paying attention to detail while considering the entire gestalt. Our process is influenced by a diverse range of fields, from agile software development and open design to avant garde film and improvised electronic music. We tell stories which strive to capture the wonderful weirdness that is the contemporary zeitgeist. If our works raise more questions than they answer we know we’re on the right track.

In January and February 2013 we were artists in residence at the Deutsche Börse Residency Program
in the Frankfurter Kunstverein for the NODE Forum for Digital Arts.
KS12 is a graduate of the Portland Incubator Experiment at Wieden + Kennedy.
Gabriel is in the 2012 class of the Art Directors Club Young Guns.
